Missionary in Residence

New Year greetings and blessings,

God is up to something wonderful at PoP in 2006. I am full of anticipation for what it will mean to have Pr. Edwin Fernado help us set in motion an intentional outreach to our neighbors from South Asia. I am thankful that you are part of this new thing our good God is about.

“Eddie” will be with us each Sunday in January as a “Missionary in Residence”. He worshiped with us last Sunday, January 1, 2006. He even brought a local (East Windsor) relative with him, because he is a good evangelist.

In an email sent after the service Pr. Fernado wrote, ” I thank you, Mrs. Baxter, the Bell Choir, the Junior Nags who played a wonderful Prelude and the entire Family of PoP who made the Sing-Song- Service a fantastic and glorious experience of Worshipping in Spirit and Truth (Jn 4). After every lesson (Which was read with perfect intonation and passion) and song that was so apt that I was able to meditate and pray for different aspects categorically. It could not have been better! Bravo and keep it up!!.”

This Sunday, 1.8, Pr. Fernado and his wife, Lois Amutha, will be introduced at both worship services. They will offer a brief Temple Talk about themselves and the NJ Lutheran South Asian Outreach Initiative. There will be time after worship to have more conversation and introductions as well. I hope you can be present to show your support for Pr. Fernado and this initiative.

In addition, you will be hearing from Andrea Baxter, our Minister of Music, soon about our special anthem for Sunday, 1.22. You will recall we decided to sing “This is the Day” in several languages. Perhaps other musical offerings could be explored for that day or other Sundays. Pr. Fernado will also preach on 1.22 and offer a Forum between services exploring "Lutheranism in South Asian and with South Asians in New Jersey”. I hope you will be present on this day as well.

Please keep Eddie and Lois in your prayers. Pray also that God may use all of our gifts and efforts to share the Good News in real and relevant ways. Thank you for your partnership in ministry.

  • Pastor John Lutz, Sorry I have not been able to visit this page or provide any updates so far. Hopefully I will try to do in the next couple of weeks.
    Thanks
